Evangelists' paperknife (pk04)

Pewter handle with embossed Celtic design and chrome-plated steel blade.
The four Evangelists were emphasised repeatedly through their symbols and the allocation of them at first varied, as did the order of the Gospels. After St Jerome the symbols were established as the man for Matthew, the lion for Mark, the calf for Luke and the eagle for John. On this paperknife the eagles are shown entwined with intricate Celtic knotwork which is used extensively in Celtic art.
Handle width: 22mm Length: 72mm Overall length (inc blade): 199mm
Supplied in a satin-lined gift box.
